We use PolaNight products, which contain 22% carbamide peroxide. Only registered dental practitioners can legally use the most concentrated—and thus most effective—whitening solutions.
Reasons for Tooth Whitening
Teeth may be discoloured by tea, coffee, red wine or cola, smoking, and excessive fluoride or tetracycline (an antibiotic) during tooth formation. If you’re considering teeth whitening, consult your dentist to see if your teeth are suitable.
Teeth whitening is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have sensitive teeth, gum disease or shrinkage, or have cracks or exposed dentin. Please note whitening treatments will not whiten existing crowns, veneers or fillings.
Other persons or businesses may advertise tooth whitening services, however, the Australian Dental Association advises that only registered dental practitioners have the expertise to assess whether bleaching is safe for you, to recommend the most appropriate technique and materials, and to provide treatment that meets safety and quality regulations.
What to Expect
The patient will come in for a consultation with the dentist. He’ll examine your teeth, and address if you have multiple fillings or extreme tooth sensitivity. We take molds for your customised trays and take a picture of the shade of your tooth for comparison.
Your next appointment is one week later, and your dentist will teach you how to use your trays. You’ll come back in four weeks to see how much the colour has changed.
